A packed home slate featuring 10 on-campus games will highlight the 2012 JU women’s lacrosse schedule. The Dolphins will be aiming to repeat as National Lacrosse Conference regular season champions and will look to win their first-ever conference tournament title.

The Dolphins will start the campaign with back-to-back road games against Florida and Vanderbilt. Opening day against the Gators is set for Feb. 15.

In total, five of the 10 non-conference opponents posted non-losing seasons. JU will see a slew of familiar faces as head coach Mindy McCord’s team will face the Gators, Temple, Louisville and Fresno State for a second straight season. The Dolphins will also see some new teams, starting with the home-opening contest on Feb. 26 versus Siena at D.B. Milne Field.

JU will then renew rivalries in NLC competition. The Dolphins went 7-0 against the league in the regular season in 2011 and will look to duplicate that feat when conferenceplay commences on Feb. 28 versus Detroit Mercy.

“We are very excited for our program’s third season and to see how much our upperclassmen have improved,” McCord said. “We are hoping a competitive out-of-conference schedule will help prepare us in our quest for another NLC championship.”

After hosting Detroit, the Dolphins will not play another league game in more than a month. NLC play will resume on March 30 at High Point in a rematch of last season’s NLC Tournament championship game. The contest will also mark the first of four straight conference road games for the Dolphins, as JU will also travel to Davidson, Liberty and Longwood.

JU will close the regular season with home games versus Howard on April 20 and Presbyterian on April 27. Nine of the Dolphins 10 home games will take place at D.B. Milne Field. Only the March 7 contest versus Temple will be played under the lights of the Ashley Sports Complex.

For the second straight season, the NLC Tournament will be held in Davidson, N.C.

The Dolphins finished 2011 14-5 overall, building on an 8-11 showing in the program’s inaugural 2010 effort. JU will be returning every single top-10 scorer from a unit that scored 308 times in 19 games for a 16.21 goals-per-game average that led all Division I teams.
