JU begins big week against Fresno
The Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team begins one of its busiest – and most important – weeks of the season when it plays host to Fresno State Tuesday.

The Dolphins (6-2, 1-0 in the National Lacrosse Conference) are coming off a 22-13 loss to Cornell last week in which sophomore Morgan Derner scored six goals.

Fresno lost the first 44 games in school history and now has won two of its last three games including an 18-8 win over Central Connecticut last week as attacker Briana Hetherington scored four goals on just six shots.

Hetherington leads the team in goals and scoring with 13 in the net and 14 points. Teammate Kara Concheck has 10 goals and an assist.

The Dolphins, third in the nation in scoring with 16.25 goals per game (behind Florida and California-Davis), have three sophomores leading the scoring parade.

Attacker Ali Hoffman and Jen Cosgrove each have 17 goals each (Hoffman has 24 points and Cosgrove 20) and Morgan Derner has 14. Hoffman also has 14 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.

Senior Jess Hotchkiss leads the defensive effort with 18 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers and junior Rachel Hannon has 35 draw controls.

Following the Fresno game, JU takes off on its first bonafide road trip of the season. The Dolphins played at Florida to start the year and have been home since Feb. 26.

They will be at High Point Friday and Davidson Sunday and follow that with two away games next week.

Tuesday's game will be shown on free of charge.
