One home, one on the road for women's lacrosse
After four games on the road, the JU women’s lacrosse team returns home Friday to start a two-game weekend which includes the final road game of the regular season against a nationally-ranked team.

The Dolphins begin their games with a Youth Night game against National Lacrosse Conference opponent Howard at 4 p.m. at D.B. Milne Field.

JU is coming off a stellar performance on both sides of the ball last weekend as the Dolphins (10-3, 4-1) outscored Liberty and Longwood, 22-4.

Sophomore captain Nikki Erdely, who scored three goals against Davidson on April 1, got her second start of the year at Liberty and responded with four goals, four ground balls and a caused turnover. In that game, sophomore Ali Hoffman set a school record with six assists.

Erdely, from Cumming, Ga., picked up another goal against Longwood giving her nine in the last three games.

The JU offense is clicking on all cylinders as 13 players scored against Longwood and 11 against Liberty. Sophomore Ali Hoffman leads the team with 44 points and sophomore Morgan Derner has a team-leading 30 goals.

A trio of players, senior Jess Hotchkiss, junior Rachael Hannon and sophomore Morgan Basler lead the resurging defense. Hannon is second in the country in draw controls with 6.15 per game (80 total), has 19 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Hotchkiss has 20 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers and Basler 22 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

Howard (0-8, 0-4) has had a topsy-turvy season and at one point all school spring sports were put on hold. The Bison cancelled one NLC game and forfeited another before resuming play.

Following Friday’s game, the Dolphins travel to Nashville, Tenn., Sunday to meet 19th ranked Vanderbilt. The Commordores are 7-7 but have played seven nationally-ranked teams throughout the season. Their latest loss was a 12-11 loss at seventh-ranked Notre Dame.

The Vanderbilt game will be available on both video streaming and live stats and game time is 2 p.m.
