JU winds down regular season with Senior Day
The JU women’s lacrosse team closes out its regular season play Saturday with its first-ever Senior Day at D.B. Milne Field.

The Dolphins meet National Lacrosse Conference opponent Presbyterian College at 1 p.m. and the team will honor its first graduating class beforehand.

Seniors Jess Hotchkiss, Kayleigh Hynes, Mel Hicks and Melissa Jaworski will say goodbye to their collegiate careers in the finale for the Dolphins (11-4, 5-1).

JU defender Rachel Hannon and attacker Morgan Derner will have a chance to gain on milestones Saturday. Hannon is closing in on 100 draw controls as she enters with a school record 91 this season and attacker Morgan Derner is only 12 career goals away from 100. Derner has 103 career points.

Sophomore Ali Hoffman, the team’s most consistent player this season, also looks to add to her single-season record of 20 assists.

Presbyterian (2-14, 1-5) comes into the game on a high after winning the last time out against Howard, 19-16.

The Blue Hose are led by Catherine Ellis who leads the team with 43 goals and 48 points, giving her the most goals in a PC season and putting her one point shy of tying Jenna Handshoe for the single-season points record.

JU holds a two-game win streak over PC having won last season 17-11 and in 2010, 20-19.

The Dolphins travel to Davidson, N.C., next weekend to play as the second-seed in the NLC tournament.
