The Jacksonville University women’s tennis team defeated Savannah State 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex. After losing a close match against FAU the previous day, the Dolphins responded with a dominating performance and their first win of the spring season.

Freshman Aline Staudt won her second singles match in as many days by defeating Sandra Kristjansdottir 6-0, 6-2. Not to be outdone, sophomore Natalia Melibeu also remained undefeated in 2012 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Esmira Gheisery. The two paired up to win their doubles match 8-3.

Several other Dolphins were able to get their first wins of the year and do so in convincing fashion. The four remaining singles competitors only dropped two sets between them. Freshman Djessika Bezerra won 6-1, 6-0, while sophomore Gabriela Bartos secured the singles point by winning 6-0, 6-1. The two seniors on the team, Virginia Iwinski and Ronnie Spencer won their matches 6-0, 6-0.

The Dolphins swept the doubles portion of the match and continued that momentum into the singles matches.
