Kane and Courtney named to A-Sun all-academic team
Senior Kathryn Kane and sophomore Kendall Courtney each had a good year for the JU volleyball team on the court and classroom en route to being named to the new A-Sun all-academic team on Tuesday.
Kane (3.8) and Courtney (3.9) each posted better than the minimum 3.30 grade point requirement, while also being key contributors for JU in 2011.
“Having two players representing us with this honor just shows that our program values academics as well as athletics,” JU head coach Shaun Kupferberg said. “Both Kathryn and Kendall have been great examples of true student-athletes and will continue to produce both on and off the court.”
After jumping back into the lineup from an injury on Sept. 30th, Kane was stellar with a team-best 128 kills. She has nine double-digits kill efforts during that stretch. She also had four double-doubles, including 10 kills and 21 digs at UNF. Kane posted 15 kills in the home finale against Florida Gulf Coast.
Off the court, the psychology major has earned A-Sun all-academic honors all three seasons and named to the President’s Honor Roll twice. She has also earned Dean’s List honors once.
Courtney led the A-Sun in overall assists (1, 222) and ranks second in aces (54) in 2011. She had 21 doubles-doubles, including 16 in the last 18 matches. Courtney also had season-high five aces twice and recorded four aces three times. As a freshman in the classroom, she earned A-Sun all-academic and Dean’s list honors.
