JU volleyball player Taylor Nyquist was tabbed as the Community First Credit Union “Athlete of the Week” to kick off the latest edition of This Week in JU Athletics.

This Week in JU Athletics is a weekly feature to give fans the top five items of the week and a full list of all the athletic events so they can cheer the Dolphins on to victory.

Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" - Taylor Nyquist: Sophomore volleyball player Taylor Nyquist was named the Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" after winning the fan vote on the JU athletics facebook page. Nyquist posed 65 kills in five matches to help lead JU to a 4-1 mark. Her highlight of the week was a 21 kill, 17 dig effort against Clemson which later earned her Campus USA Credit Union Invitational all-tournament honors.
Football heads to Western Illinois - The Dolphins will try again for their first win of the season on Saturday when they play at Western Illinois. JU surrendered 31 unanswered points to The Citadel in a 31-9 season opening loss. The game at Western Illinois could be a small revenge game as they beat out the Dolphins to a playoff spot last season.
Volleyball opens at home - After two long weeks on the road, the volleyball team will finally get some matches at home starting Friday. The Dolphins play Presbyterian at Swisher Gym on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting South Carolina State (6 p.m.) on Saturday and Savannah State (1 p.m.) on Sunday. JU comes back home on a small tear, winning four of its last five matches.
Women’s soccer heads to USF - The women’s soccer team will head to the center of the state beginning Friday for the USF Tournament. The Dolphins play FAU on Friday before finishing with the host Bulls on Sunday. JU comes into the win after thrilling wins against Furman and Georgia State at home.

Men’s soccer tackles first road trip - While the women are heading to central Florida, the men’s team will be heading just a wee bit further to play its matches this week. JU will play at Boca Raton against Florida Atlantic on Friday and finish on Sunday in Miami against FIU. The Dolphins begin its first road trip of the season after downing UMass on Sunday and falling to nationally ranked UCF the previous week.
