JU volleyball player Niatha Cullen was tabbed as the Community First Credit Union “Athlete of the Week” to kick off the latest edition of This Week in JU Athletics.

This Week in JU Athletics is a weekly feature to give fans the top five items of the week and a full list of all the athletic events so they can cheer the Dolphins on to victory.


Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" - Niatha Cullen: Sophomore volleyball player Niatha Cullen was named the Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" after winning the fan vote on the JU athletics facebook page. Cullen tallied 13 kills, four digs and a block in helping the Dolphins sweep Savannah State on Sunday afternoon.
Football opens at home on Saturday - The Dolphins will get to enjoy the comforts of home when they play Charleston Southern at D.B. Milne Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Dolphins are in search of their first win of the season after falling to The Citadel and Western Illinois in the first two weeks.
Volleyball’s final non-conference matches- The volleyball team will play in their final non-conference matches before A-Sun play next weekend. They play against FIU on Friday in the UCF Challenge before finishing with UCF or UTEP the next day. JU closes the week at home against Troy on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Soccer teams prep for in-state road matches - Both JU soccer programs have a relatively short week in the state of Florida. The women will play at UCF on Friday in their final match before A-Sun play, while the men will compete against Temple in DeLand on Friday at 7 p.m. The men’s team ends the week at the Ashley Sports Complex on Sunday against Furman at 1 p.m.

Women’s tennis competes for first time - Majority of the spring teams are going through fall seasons, but the women’s tennis team will actually get some live action this week. The Dolphins play in the College of Charleston Invitational on Friday in Charleston, S.C.
