Six student-athletes earn academic awards at spring graduation

Six JU student-athletes were recognized for their academic accomplishments during Saturday’s spring commencement ceremony that saw nearly 700 students receive degrees.

Hannah Munneke, Nicki Kent and Ashley August (volleyball), Susanne Klungtveit (track), Rebecca Stott (women’s soccer) and Wesley Lartey (men’s soccer) each earned special recognition during the graduation exercise.

Munneke posted a 3.625 grade-point-average en route to being named an “outstanding student in general business” by the Davis College of Business. Klungtveit and Stott also were singled out by the DCOB, with Klungtveit earning the distinction of “outstanding student in international business” for her 3.86 GPA. Stott won “outstanding student in management.”

Kent recorded a pristine 4.0 GPA as a graduate student while receiving the school of education’s “excellence in research” award. Lartey also received recognition from the school of education with an “excellence in exercise science” honor thanks to his 3.44 GPA.

August, who registered a 3.57 GPA as a junior and is on track to graduate next year, received the “alumni award for excellence in science and mathematics.”
