This Week in JU Athletics (Feb. 5 – Feb. 12)
JU track & field student-athlete Charlene Charles was tabbed as the Community First Credit Union Athlete of the Week to kick off the latest edition of This Week in JU Athletics.

This Week in JU Athletics is a weekly feature to give fans the top five items of the week and a full list of all the athletic events so they can cheer the Dolphins on to victory.


Community First Credit Union Athlete of the Week – Charlene Charles Junior track & field student-athlete Charlene Charles was named the Community First Credit Union Athlete of the Week by winning the fan vote on the JU athletics facebook page. Charles broke her current pentathlon record at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup after winning the event with 3,971 points. She took first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.88), high jump (5’7.25”), long jump (19’2.5”) and 800-meter (2:19.74) for a point’s total that ranks her 10th nationally.
Basketball preps for final road trip - The Dolphins will be on the road for one final time this season starting Thursday. The women play at East Tennessee State to start the week Thursday. They will be the second half of a doubleheader on Saturday at USC Upstate following the men’s team.
Softball begins title defense - The Dolphins will begin their 2011 A-Sun title defense Friday with the Opening Weekend Tournament at the JU Softball Complex. The Dolphins will host Buffalo, St. Louis and Virginia Tech in the first of two home tournaments in 2012.
Women’s tennis is action - The women’s tennis team will be in action on Wednesday at home against Bethune-Cookman. Freshman Aline Staudt will look to stay perfect against the Lady Wildcats.

Other teams in action - The women’s golf team will look for a strong finish in the next two days of the Courtyard Classic at the Hidden Hills Country Club. The men’s lacrosse team will host Towson at D.B. Milne Field in the 2012 opener on Saturday at 1 p.m.
