Dolphins shut out UCF Knights 4-0 behind Anderson

Orlando, Fla. -- In what was guaranteed to be a pitchers duel. The Jacksonville University Dolphins began a three game series with the UCF Knights on Friday night. Junior Chris Anderson (Lino Lakes, Minn.) (1-1 1.17 ERA) squared off against UCF ace Ben Lively (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) (3-0 0.43 ERA).

The Dolphins drew first blood in the top half of the sixth inning when Michael Babb (Jacksonville, Fla.) reached on a throwing error. With Babb moving on the pitch Drew Luther (Fullerton, Cal.) ripped a 0-2 pitch down the right field line scoring Babb easily from first.

The Knights threatened in the bottom half of the sixth with two singles but Anderson struck out Austin Johnson (Winter Haven, Fla.) stranding runners on the corners for the Knights.

Anderson wiggled out of trouble again in the bottom of the eighth. Anderson coaxed a line drive to Zac Houck (Orange Park, Fla.) to strand runners at first and second ending a Knights threat.

UCF went to the bullpen in the top half of the ninth replacing Lively. Lively was replaced after going eight innings allowing only one unearned run on 119 pitches while striking out eleven.

The Dolphins quickly took advantage. Brady North (Tampa, Fla.) singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Braddock Rowe (Jacksonville, Fla.). Alex McRae (West Allis, Wisc.) singled through to left scoring Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla.) who pinch ran for North. Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla.) followed with a double advancing McRae to third. Kris Molter then singled scoring McRae and Koslowki to give the Dolphins a 4-0 lead.

The Dolphins went to the bullpen in the ninth replacing Anderson who went eight innings striking out ten batters and only walking one. Drew Woods (Jacksonville, Fla.) can in and pitched a scoreless ninth to close it out for the Dolphins.

Anderson (2-1) was credited with the win and Lively (3-1) was tabbed with the loss.

The Dolphins will be back in action tomorrow at 4pm from Knights stadium.
