Hatters defeat Dolphins 9-8 in ten innings
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Stetson Hatters (14-17, 3-5 ASun) defeated the JU Dolphins (11-20, 4-4 ASun) 9-8 to in matinee action Saturday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium.
The Hatters jumped on the Dolphins very early on Saturday afternoon scoring five runs on five hits in the top half of the first to jump out to an early lead.
The Dolphins wasted no time answering back Zachary Houck (Orange Park, Fla./Eagles View Academy) led off the bottom of the first with a double. One out later Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) singled to center scoring Houck. Brady North (Tampa, Fla./Hillsboro CC) then followed with fifth homerun of the year to right field to make it 5-3.
The Dolphins were back at it again in the bottom of the third. Braddock Rowe (Jacksonville, Fla./South Georgia College) singled with two outs. Nate Ricci (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) followed with a single to left. Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, N.Y./FSCJ) walked loading the bases for Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton College) who doubled down the right field line putting the Dolphins ahead 6-5.
Stetson answered back in the fifth scoring three runs on two hits and two Dolphin errors to go back on top 8-6.
The Dolphins rallied in the bottom half of the ninth. Pinch hitter Alex McRae (West Allis, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) led off with a single. Houck reached on a fielder’s choice that retired McRae. Houck then advanced to second on a balk. Jake Huxtable (Winter Springs, Fla./Santa Fe College) the ripped a double off the wall making it a one run game. Koslowski then followed with an RBI single to send the game to extra innings.
The Hatters were able to push across a run in the top of the tenth on one hit and a nicely placed sacrifice bunt.
The Dolphins could not score in the bottom half of the frame giving the Hatters a 9-8 win evening the series at 1-1 headed into tomorrow’s rubber game.
Adam Maxon (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) (0-1) was credited with the loss allowing a run in the tenth.
