Owls down Dolphins 14-4 in ASun play

KENNESAW Ga.- The JU Dolphins (11-23, 4-6 ASun) and the Kennesaw State Owls (19-16, 8-5 ASun) faced off in Atlantic Sun action on Friday evening in at Stillwell Field.

The Dolphins jumped out early on one of the Atlantic Sun’s finest. The Dolphins scored three runs in the top half of the third off Owl’s starter Stephen Janas (5-0).

Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton College) led off with a single and advanced to second on a ground ball by Scott Schaub (Ocala, Fla./College of Central Florida). One out later Zachary Houck (Orange Park, Fla./Eagles View Academy) singled scoring Luther. Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) singled through the middle scoring Houck who was running on the pitch to make it 2-0. Jake Huxtable (Winter Springs, Fla./Santa Fe College) followed with an infield single. Dillard scored on a throwing error on the play to make it 3-0.

The Owls answered back quickly by scoring four runs on three hits in the bottom half of the third. The big blow was a three run homerun by Owls third baseman Peyton Hart to make it 4-3.

The Owls followed up in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs on three hits chasing Dolphins starter Chris Anderson (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial). Anderson (5-2) was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

The Dolphins led off the top of the seventh with three consecutive singles by Luther, Schaub and Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, N.Y./FSCJ) to close the gap to 7-4.

The Owls pushed across three runs on four hits and one Dolphin error in the bottom half of the seventh to make it 10-4.

The Owls added four more runs on five hits in the bottom of the eighth to round out the scoring at 14-4.
