Alex McRae dominant as Dolphins down Owls 4-0
KENNESAW, Ga.- The JU Dolphins (12-23,5-6 ASun) and the Kennesaw State Owls (19-17,8-6 ASun) squared off in matinee Atlantic Sun Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Stillwell Field in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Dolphins jumped out early scoring three runs in the top half of the second inning. Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton College) and Nate Ricci (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) led off with a pair of singles and advanced on a perfectly executed sacrifice by Garrett Ruckel (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep). One out later Zachary Houck (Orange Park, Fla./Eagles View Academy) singled scoring Luther easily and Ricci scored on a throwing error by the Owls to make it 2-0. Houck then the stole second and later scored on an RBI single by Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) making it 3-0.
The Dolphins pushed across an insurance run in the top of the eighth. Koslowski reached on a one out walk and then stole second. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Following a Brady North (Tampa, Fla./Hillsboro CC) walk Braddock Rowe (Jacksonville, Fla./South Georgia College) singled to put the Dolphins up 4-0.
That was all the offense that Alex McRae (West Allis, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) (3-3) would need. McRae pitched a complete game shut out scattering three hits while striking out five.
The Dolphins were led offensively by Houck and Luther who both finished with a pair of singles on the day.
