Junior College Standout Signs With Dolphins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Justin Russell, a star right-handed pitcher from Seminole State College has signed to play with the JU Dolphins beginning in the fall of 2013.

“We are extremely excited to have Justin as our newest member of our Fall 2013 recruiting class”, said head coach in waiting Tim Montez. “We look for Justin to be one of our weekend starters in 2014. He is a strong durable RHP that throws 3 pitches for strikes and brings a lot of experience to the table”

Russell also excels in the classroom and is a Jacksonville native that attended Episcopal HS, and played for head coach Mike Jones.

Highlights of Justin Russell’s career: 2013: Played for Dolphin Alumnus and former Assistant Coach, Chris Hayes….tireless worker, emotional leader of the pitching staff….2012 stats: 6-1, 12 starts, 82.1 IP, 2.51 era, 3 CG which lead to All Mid Florida Conference honors….received “Coaches Award” for the SSCF Baseball team, recognizing the top performing student-athlete for the 2012-2013 year.

2011: Attended the Citadel after graduating from high school. Played a significant role on the pitching staff as a freshman. 2010 stats: 1-7, 13 starts, 70 IP, 5.91 era

High School: Graduated from Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, Fla. where he played for former MLB player Mike Jones ... named 2010 MVP... named to the All-State team... team won state championship at Providence High School in junior year... earned record of 23-2-1 as a pitcher... lettered in baseball for four years and football for one year.

Personal: born Dec. 23, 1991 in Tampa, Fla. ... son of Heidi and Kurt Russell.
