Sand Volleyball finishes fourth at the A-Sun Championship
The Jacksonville University sand volleyball team finished fourth in the inaugural Atlantic Sun Conference Sand Volleyball Championship.
Hosted on the JU campus, the Dolphins went 1-3 in the team competition and had two pairs lose by two points in the semifinal matches of the flights on Sunday.
“This was a great inaugural event,” said JU head coach Michelle Collier. “We were very competitive in each of our matches, but our mistakes were costly. For our first sand season, it’s a good starting point as we build the program in the coming years.”
The Dolphins opened the tournament with a win over Mercer, 4-1, before falling to Florida Gulf Coast, 4-1. On Saturday, Jacksonville dropped its two matches by 3-2 scores to Stetson and North Florida.
North Florida won the team title, going undefeated in its four matches. The Ospreys’ No. 1 flight team of Anna Budinska and Dajnija Medina won the No. 1 flight championship and was A-Sun “Pair of the Year.”
Earning all-tournament team honors for JU was the pair of Cari Whitmire and Kendall Courtney.
