Courtney Walker wraps first day of US Junior Championships
A strong headwind created difficulty for rising sophomore Courtney Walker as she represented the JU track & field program on the first day of the US Junior Championships Friday.
Walker, a local native, ran into a -3.2 headwind during the 100-meter preliminaries for a time of 12.06 to miss the finals. No one other than the winner of the heat advanced to the final due to the strong head wind.
“Courtney's heat had an unlucky disadvantage of a strong headwind compared to the other heats,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “While she is unhappy with today's result, she should be proud of the excellent results she produced during her freshman year. She has earned a mental and physical break so that she can return as a leader of our team next year.”
Fellow rising sophomore Shanique Walker will carry torch for the Dolphins for the rest of the weekend as she competes in the in the 100-meter hurdles Saturday and the triple jump Sunday.
