Volleyball adds Jizzyan Gesualdo for the 2012 season
It’s never too late to add strength to the roster as the JU volleyball team signed setter Jizzyan Gesualdo (Ponce, Puerto Rico) for the 2012 season.

Gesualdo has played with the Puerto Rico National girls youth team since she was 11 years old and helped the squad win the bronze medal at NORCECA in Guatemala during the 2010 season. She also competed at the selection camp for the adult national team in 2011.

“I am so excited about Jizzyan joining our program,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “She has played volleyball at a very high level, competing for the Puerto Rican Junior national team, and she will be an immediate impact for us. Jizzyan is also a very strong student and we look forward to helping her become a very successful student athlete here at JU.”

At the high school level, she earned team MVP five times as a setter at Academia Santa Maria. She was also named conference MVP as a senior and freshman. Gesualdo earned three MVP honors on the basketball team and won the league shot put title on the track & field team twice.

Gesualdo joins Thalya Pagan (Manati, Puerto Rico), Gabriella Roman (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Emily Laskelle (Napa, Calif.) who signed earlier in the spring.

The Dolphins open the 2012 season against N.C. State in the College of Charleston Tournament on Aug. 24.
