JU men’s basketball head coach Cliff Warren exchanged his whistle for golf clubs at the inaugural Nation of Coaches Celebrity Golf Classic July 17 in Augusta, Ga.

Warren was one of 20 coaches in the event for the organization that helps support coaches in all walks of life, including family life and work in the community.

Among the participants joining Warren were Roy Williams (University of North Carolina), Tubby Smith (University of Minnesota), Bobby Cremins (Former Head Coach at Georgia Tech & College of Charleston), Paul Hewitt (George Mason), Cazzie Russell (NBA Hall of Fame), and Frank Martin (University of South Carolina).

“This was a great event,” Warren said. “This organization really wants to make sure they help coaches become the leaders they need to be for their sport. I look forward to working with them again.”

The Nation of Coaches was founded in 2005 by former head coach Jim Haney who now serves as the executive director. His dream was to launch a ministry dedicated to college basketball coaches to help them deal with the everyday pressure to produce and win. That dream grew into a vision to see coaches from every sport at every level equipped to be the successful leaders that God has called them to be.
