The struggles on offense that have plagued the Jacksonville University men’s soccer team all season were nowhere to be found as the Dolphins defeated Georgia Southern 5-0 Saturday night in Jacksonville.
After only scoring three goals on the season, the Dolphins exploded notching five goals to get the first win under new head coach Ryan Pratt.
Sophomore forward Matheus Saroli led the way scoring the first two goals of his JU career.
Jacksonville got on the board early in the first half with the first of Saroli’s two goals on the night. Sophomore defender Ashton Pett played a perfect through ball to Saroli who showed of some nifty footwork maneuvering around a defender and beating the keeper with the shot.
JU would double its lead in the 33rd minute when junior and leading goal scorer Nick Rodriguez corralled a pass from Guilherme Brandao and fired a shot that deflected off a defender and into the goal putting the Dolphins up 2-0.
The scoring borage was far from over as the Dolphins would add three second half goals.
Sophomore defender Henrik Synnes scored off of a corner kick while Saroli and freshman Elliott Roshoir would each find the back of the net.
The Dolphins never let up after they got the lead determined to secure their first win of the year and did so in dominating fashion.
JU (1-6-1, 0-1-0 A-Sun) will try to make it a two game winning streak when it travels to Hofstra on September 25.
