Cross Country races at FLRunners.com Invitational Friday
After almost a month of training, the JU men’s and women’s cross country teams are back in action Friday for the FLRunners.com Invitational in Titusville, Fla.
The entire men’s squad will be back competing following their first effort in the JU short Course Duals on Aug. 31.
“We are excited to get back to racing,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “I look forward to seeing how much our four freshmen men have matured over the past month of training.”
The Dolphins were led in the duals by newcomers Nick Dale and Andrew Merrill.
Dale ran an 18:08.70 to place 14th in his first collegiate meet, while Merrill took 20th in 18:49.20.
Junior Esteban Mendez ran a 21:20.60 for the Dolphins. Freshman James Trebilcock (22:40.90) and sophomore Taylor Fisher (24:12.50) rounded out the rest of the group.
On the women’s side, senior Bienna Freeman and Alicia Gard-Kaminkow and junior LaTonya Payne will represent the Dolphins at the meet.
“The 5k distance is a better option for Bienna, LaTonya and Alicia right now,” Grigg said. “Alicia got a late start to her training, and Bienna and LaTonya are really more 800/400 runners. This will be a good assessment tool for all three of them. Our other women will race next weekend over the 6k distance.”
Freeman and Gard-Kaminkow each ran in the meet last season to help the Dolphins to a second-place finish. Payne posted a time of 15:35.70 in the JU Short Course Duals Aug. 31.
