Women’s cross country places third at UCF Attack Challenge
Despite sunny and hot conditions, senior Joane Pierre placed first to lead the JU women’s cross country team at the UCF Attack Challenge Friday evening.
Pierre won the event for the second straight season by running a time of 21:25.60. Junior Svenja Meyer was not too far behind in 21:57.46 (6th) to help the Dolphins to a third-place overall finish.
“Joane ran a controlled effort,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “It is clear that Svenja is fit as she ran a nice last 3k. As a team, we need to find some support for those two or we will surely be disappointed with the conclusion to our season.”
Sophomore Sarah Bailey was JU’s next highest finisher in 23:55.67 (31st), while seniors Morgan Keel (24:03.92, 33rd) and Amalia Vogler (24:06.02, 36th) followed her.
Senior Bienna Freeman ran a time of 25:57.67 (84th) and senior Alicia Gard-Kaminkow had a 26.15.33 (88th). Junior LaTonya Payne rounded out the group in 26:21.87 (91st).
The Dolphins will use the next two weeks to train for the A-Sun Championships on Oct. 27 in Ft Meyers, Fla.
