Kendall Courtney named to A-Sun Scholar-Athlete team
For the second straight season, junior Kendall Courtney represented the JU volleyball team on the A-Sun Scholar-Athlete squad released by the league office.
Courtney posted a near 4.0 grade point average at 3.98 as a Spanish major to earn the honor a second time. She has also received two A-Sun all-academic team honors and been on the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List in her time at JU.
“Kendall has been tremendous for us this season,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “She is the hardest worker on the floor day in and day out and she is a great example of what the term student-athlete stands for. She takes academics just as serious as she takes volleyball and that is why she is one of our leaders in the gym and in the classroom. I am proud of her accomplishments and I hope young players on our team look up to her and learn from her commitment.”
On the court in 2012, Courtney led JU in assists (1140), digs (338) and double-doubles (19), while ranking second in aces (24) and third in blocks (45). She has had more than 40 assists 14 occasions, including 50 or more six times. Courtney tallied a season-best 55 assists in the win against USC Upstate Nov. 9.
The Dolphins begin the A-Sun tournament Thursday against cross-town rival North Florida at 8:30 p.m.
