JU dedicates the Swisher Golf Facility
On a morning with temperatures more like the Old Course at St Andrews than the banks of the St Johns River, the Jacksonville University community formally dedicated the Swisher Golf Practice Facility Friday.
On hand were representatives of Swisher International, Florida Carter and other local businesses that came together to complete the formation of the state of the art short game golf practice facility. Along with the local dignitaries were members of the JU Board of Trustees and current President Kerry Romesburg as well as President Elect Tim Cost.
“The name Swisher is synonymous with JU,” said Romesburg. “They have been here since the beginning. This facility is a tremendous addition to our campus.”
Dolphin men’s golf coach Mike Blackburn addressed the crowd thanking them for coming out and contributing to the success of the project.
“We are now able to recruit with the national powers,” said Blackburn. “An on-campus facility will allow us to take our program to the next level and attract the high level talent that we previously had missed out on as well as further develop our current players. Through their generous donations to JU, Billy and Jackie Ziegler of Swisher International have assured student-athletes have access to state of the art facilities for years to come.”
The practice area allows players to work on shots up to 125 yards and puts an emphasis on the short game where the majority of golf shots take place.
The facility is maintained by the staff of the Ponte Vedra Golf and Country Club and will be open year round to members of the golf program.
