OPENING TIP
Jacksonville (5-8) begins its second season on Monday night as Atlantic Sun play tips-off against league newcomer Northern Kentucky (2-6). The Dolphins also welcome Lipscomb to Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday night as part of a two-game home stand to start conference play.
The non-league portion of the schedule concluded on Friday for JU with a loss at No. 5 Indiana. The Dolphins shot a season best 58.8 percent from three (10-17) against the Hoosiers. Junior Dylan Fritsch finished with a team high 15 points in the game while accounting for the bulk of the team’s production from beyond the arc, shooting 5-7 from three. The 6’5” junior forward is averaging a team best 12.6 points over the last seven games and shooting 42 percent (20-47) from three. Senior Glenn Powell battled the IU front line equaling a season best 12 rebounds in just 24 minutes of action. Powell ranks third in the A-Sun with 7.8 rebounds per game and fifth with a 54.8 FG percentage.
Northern Kentucky is making its Atlantic Sun debut. The Norse competed in the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference from 1985-2012, and joined the A-Sun this season while reclassifying to Division I. While undergoing the reclassifying in 2012-13, NKU is not eligible for the A-Sun Tournament.
The Norse bring a two-game win streak to Florida following victories over Hampton and Navy. Eshaunte Jones, a 6’4” transfer from Nebraska, leads the team with 13.0 points per game.
