JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville junior Javon Dawson (Cordele, Ga.) picked up his second straight Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week honor when as the league office announced its weekly men’s basketball awards on Tuesday (Jan. 29).  The Dolphins have now had a player honored with the award in each of the past three weeks.

Dawson’s performance last week was highlighted by a 16-point, 6-rebound effort in an 83-80 win at East Tennessee State on Thursday night. Coming off the bench for the Dolphins, he scored six points in the final 80 seconds, but none were bigger then his 10-foot leaner and free throw with 1:20 left after ETSU had just hit a go-ahead three-pointer.

The junior forward is averaging 12.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in the last three games.  He shares the honor this week with FGCU’s Eric McKnight.

At 6-3 in the A-Sun, Jacksonville sits in a five-way tie for first place with Stetson, FGCU, Mercer and USC Upstate.  The Dolphins play host to Stetson on Thursday at 7:00 pm and FGCU on Saturday at 3:15 pm.  Both games are at Swisher Gymnasium.

All fans are encouraged to wear White on Thursday Night against Stetson for a WHITE OUT in SWISHER GYM!
