JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An 11 inning pitching duel ended with one swing of the bat by senior Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, NY.). The senior shortstop hammered a 2-1 pitch deep in to the night much to liking of the 294 fans that braved chilly temperatures for the 2013 season opener.

Dolphin junior Chris Anderson (Lino Lakes, Minn.) pitched seven dominant innings striking out 13 and only allowing one hit. Not to be outdone, fellow junior Zach Gordon (St. Petersburg, Fla.) pitched four impressive innings to earn the win.

The Dolphins were lead offensively by Loosen who finished the night with a double, a homerun and both of the Dolphins runs batted in. “ I hit it well, I am just happy to help the team and get us off to a good start” Loosen said.

The Dolphins got on the board in the bottom half of the 6th inning when Jake Huxtable (Winter Springs, Fla.) was hit by a pitch then advanced to second on a nice sacrifice bunt by Drew Luther (Fullerton, Ca.). One out later Loosen doubled deep down the left field line plating Huxtable easily.

Dolphin pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts only allowing one base on balls and two hit batsmen in 11 innings of work. Game two of the series will be played at John Sessions Stadium on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. EST.
