Men’s and women’s rowing open their spring season at Florida Tech
The JU men’s and women’s rowing teams are set to begin their spring schedules as they travel to Fellsmere, Fla. on Saturday to take on Florida Tech in a dual meet. The men’s team will race Varsity 8, Freshmen 8, and Varsity 4 boats. “We as a team are looking forward to begin the season,” said men’s rowing coach Montia Rice. “We have been training hard on land and against each other, but now look forward to racing other competition. This race should give us a clear understanding of where we are in relation to the top crews in the country. FIT will be fighting for the championship this year and we‘ll be able to see where we stack up at this point in time.” The women’s team will enter two Varsity 8 boats and a Varsity 4. “We are ready to kick the spring championship season off with this race, which will be a challenging start to the season,” said women’s coach Jim Mitchell. “Florida Tech is a good program with a lot of history. Our team has been working hard all fall and winter, so now we will finally be able to see what kind of speed we have relative to another team, and we will find out what areas of training we need to focus on for the rest of the season.” The races are set to begin at 10 a.m. on Canal C-54 in Fellsmere, Fla.
