Men’s rowing opens season at Keuper Cup

FELLSMERE, Fla. – The JU men’s rowing team kicked off its spring schedule competing against Florida Tech in a dual meet at Canal 54 in Fellsmere, Fla. on Saturday. 

The Freshman 8 boat finished first in its race while the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 boats finished behind the Panthers. 

The freshman boat consisting of Angelo Santiago (coxswain), Andrew Stebbins, Ellis Harr, Grath Greene, Scott Waitley, Erik Fournier, Nathen Esterline, Billy Macomber, and Chris Searcy finished in a time of 6:49.2 just edging out Florida Tech by 3.5 seconds. 

The Varsity 8 boat of Maycee Dioneda (coxswain), Chase Rowe, Jared Low, Jeremy Sobiech, Bernard Vingilis, Preston Weinard, Shane Kennedy, Shane Carney, and Andrew Bechtold finished in a time of 6:42.2.  They trailed the Panther boat by 26.8 seconds.

The Varsity 4 boat of Benjamin Hayes (coxswain), Scott Del Vecchio, Brian Cosmillo, Tom Harrison, and Stephen Marra finished the course in 7:35.4.  They finished 22.8 seconds behind.

The men’s rowing team retuns to action March 15 as they travel to Deland, Fla. to take on Stetson in a dual meet.
