Bethune Cookman scores late and beats Dolphins 3-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --On a beautiful Bike Week afternoon in Daytona Beach the JU Dolphins faced the Bethune Cookman Wildcats at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The Wildcats jumped out early scoring a run on two hits in the bottom half of the second inning. Eric Sams laced a one out double into the gap in left then scored on a single by Brandon Turner to go ahead 1-0. The Dolphins threatened in the top half of the third. Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, NY/Kellenberg) reached on an error Kris Molter (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) sacrificed him to second. Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) then reached on an infield single. The threat ended when pitcher Anthony Stokes coaxed Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) into an inning double play. Drew Luther (Fullerton, Ca./Fullerton Col.) singled with one out in the top of the fourth. Alex McRae (West Allis, Wis./Eisenhower) followed with a crisp single to left. After a strike out, Garrett Ruckel (Jacksonville, Fla./ Stanton Prep.) laced a single to right. Luther attempted to score from second on the play and was retired at the plate ending the Dolphins threat. BCC answered back in the bottom of the sixth knotting the score at 2-2 with three singles in the inning. The Wildcats pushed an unearned run across in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Zach Gordon (St. Petersburg, Fla./ St. Petersburg Col.) hit the lead off batter. He was advanced to second on a sacrifice and moved to third on a ground out, He then scored on an infield error to put the Wildcats ahead 3-2. The Dolphins were retired in order in the ninth giving the Wildcats the 3-2 win. Gordon (1-3) was the hard luck loser going 1 2/3 innings allowing no hits and one unearned run. The Dolphins will be back in action on Friday night at 6:30 pm from John Sessions Stadium. |
