ORLANDO, Fla.— Senior thrower Akeela Bravo had an outstanding meet for the Dolphin track & field team on Saturday finishing in the top four in the three events she competed in.
She was one of only six Dolphins that made the trip to Orlando to compete in the meet.
Bravo recorded the second best collegiate hammer throw mark with a toss of 172-11. She also was the third collegiate finisher in the discus with a throw of 146-02 and finished fourth in the shot put with a long mark of 44-03.25.
Other Dolphins excelled in the throws as well with freshman Kree Clark finishing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 40-09.00 and sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 138-04. Sophomore Sally Marie Futch’s toss of 157-11 in the hammer throw was the seventh best collegiate throw. She also threw the discus 127-11 to finish in 11th. Senior Sarah Schunter had a top ten finish in the shot put with a toss of 39-01.25.
JU sent a pair of sophomores to compete in two races at the meet.
Shanique Walker posted a 14.34 in the 100m hurdles to finish fourth behind competitors from UCF and Michigan.
Alexis Taylor ran a 1:04.59 in the 400m hurdles to finish in sixth place.
These six Dolphins along with the rest of the team return to action March 29 when they take part in the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville.
