DAYTONA, Fla.--- The JU softball team kept its winning streak alive Wednesday night when it defeated the Bethune-Cookman 1-0 in Daytona. The Dolphins beat the Wildcats for the third time this season.
Jacksonville (27-10, 8-3 A-Sun) did not win big like it had in the previous five wins in its winning streak, but instead a Bethune-Cookman (8-28) miscue and some timely hitting to squeak out the game’s only run.
Freshman Taylor Rossman (4-4) gave the Dolphins five innings of scoreless work allowing just four hits and one walk to pick up the win.
The lone run of the game came in the top of the second inning.
Third baseman Ashley Simon reached on an error by the shortstop to lead off the inning. Karson Tuck followed with a double to right field to give the Dolphins runners on second and third. Junior first baseman Meagan Balding then lifted a pitch deep enough into left field for Simon to tag up on and score the run.
The Wildcats outhit the Dolphins 6-5 and loaded the bases twice but had nothing to show for it.
JU continues its road trip as it travels to Highland Heights, Ky. to take on Northern Kentucky in a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6. The games are scheduled to begin at noon.
