Dolphins Set to Take Part in State Championship

SARASOTA, Fla.--The JU men’s and women’s rowing teams travel to Sarasota, Fla. on Friday to take part in the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association (FIRA) regatta.  The men’s team has captured the title for the last six years while the women did not participate last season. 

“We have won the men’s point trophy for the last 6 years, and although the women did not go last year, they are looking forward to going back and competing,” said JU Rowing Director Jim Mitchell.  “Previous to last year, we had won the overall team point trophy (men and women combined) for 5 years straight and are hoping to get back to that level.”

The two-day competition begins Friday with qualifying, while the finals are held on Saturday. 

The race features a diverse group of teams from all over the area ensuring the competition to be fierce.  The participants include: Florida State, Florida, Georgia Tech, University of Tampa, Florida Tech, Stetson, Rollins, Nova, and Emory. 

Friday’s qualifying is set to start at 4 p.m. with the finals starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
