Freeman, Pierre Shine at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—The JU track & field team set two school records at the Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday. 

Seniors Bienna Freeman and Joane Pierre each improved on their own previous school records and did so in impressive fashion. 

Freeman had the performance of the day, shattering the previous JU record by over two seconds and recording the second fastest time in the country this season in the 800m.  She posted a blistering 2:04.08 to finish as the top collegiate in the race. 

Pierre finished second in the 1500m against very strong competition with a time of 4:24.17.  She bested 32 other competitors from traditional power programs and improved upon the old school record by nearly a second.   

The Dolphins received solid performances from other members of the team as well.

Shanique Walker recorded a time of 13.82 in the 100m hurdles to be the seventh collegiate finisher.  She also ran the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:03.04.

LaTonya Payne posted a 1:00.38 in the 400m hurdles for the Dolphins while Alexis Taylor finished in 1:07.87.

Svenja Meyer had a very nice race in the 3000m steeplechase finishing in a time of 11:02.23 which was good for 11th overall. 

Sarah Bailey ran a season-best 4:44.99 in the 1500m to finish 23rd. 

Kree Clark had a long toss of 135-05 in the discus to finish 19th. 

In the 100m dash, Courtney Walker finished in 12.09. 

The Dolphins return to action tomorrow for the conclusion of the three-day meet.
