DOLPHINS finish 19th at Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's golf team finished 19th at the highly competitive 2013 Intercollegiate/Marsh Landing Invitational, April 8-9. The two-day, 54-hole event, including six teams in the top 50 nationally, is being played at Marsh Landing Country Club (Par 72 - 5,987 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The host JU Dolphins were led by Natalie Schmett who finished with a (76-77-76) total of 229 to finish in a tie for 59th. Christina Paulsen finished the 54-hole event tied for 63rd overall (81-73-76) with a score of 230. Jessica Welch (76-75-82) and Francesca Yong (81-73-79) finished with a total of 233 to tie for 74th overall. Carlie Gelhausen (83-79-76) finished in a tie for 90th with a three round total of 238.

Purdue held a five-stroke lead at the end of the second round Monday and was able to extend its advantage over the field in the final round by shooting the lowest team score of the tournament with a 283. The Boilermakers finished with an 857 (290-284-283, -7) to win the team competition. Iowa State totaled a one-over par 865 (289-290-286) and No. 16 Texas Tech finished third at 869 (293-287-289, +5).

The Dolphins will return to play in the Atlantic Sun Golf Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga. on Monday, April 15th. The 54-hole event will include 18 holes on three consecutive days.
