DOLPHINS down Norse 4-1 in A-Sun Conference play
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The JU Dolphins (14-23,7-6 A-Sun) defeated the Northern Kentucky Norse (6-31, 1-12 A-Sun) 4-1 on Friday after noon.
The Dolphins jumped out early scoring a run on one hit in the top half of the first inning. Zachary Houck (Orange Park, Fla./Eagles View Academy) led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two outs later Brady North (Tampa, Fla./Hillsboro CC) doubled off the centerfield wall scoring Houck easily and putting the Dolphins up 1-0.
The Norse answered back with an unearned run in the bottom half of the third inning to knot the score at 1-1.
Starting pitcher Chris Anderson (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) then settled in for the day allowing only six hits and benefitting from three double plays turned behind him.
The game remained tied until the top half of the ninth. North led off with a single. Braddock Rowe (Jacksonville, Fla./South Georgia College) followed with a single advancing Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) who pitch ran for North to second. Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton College) then singled up the middle scoring Dillard. Alex McRae (West Allis, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt advancing the runners. Scott Schaub (Ocala, Fla./College of Central Florida) then reached on a run scoring error by the Norse to make it 3-1. Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, N.Y./FSCJ) then ripped his second hit of the day to make the score 4-1.
That was all that Anderson (6-3) would need. Anderson fired a complete game six hitter striking out five along the way in lowering his era to 2.30.
