Women’s Rowing Sends Three Boats to Finals at SIRA

OAK RIDGE, Tn.—The JU women’s rowing team will compete in three finals tomorrow at the Southeastern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Regatta after qualifying on Saturday.

The Dolphins will compete in two B finals and one A final during tomorrow’s races.

The Varsity 4 of Renee Pharis (coxswain), Blanca Fernandez, Samara Generals, Ivy Hartley, and Rebecca Clark finished third in their opening race of the day in a time of 8:30.77.  In their semifinal they finished sixth in a time of 8:58.80 to qualify for the B final.

The Varsity 8 of Savannah Rice (coxswain), Cassie MacLellan, Jordyn Clary, Emily Close, Whitney Matthews, Jules Welch, Cat Plesko, Victoria, Hernandez, and Mary Mosier finished third in their race with a time of 7:39.12.  They finished sixth in their semifinal heat in a time of 7:11.90 to qualify for the B final.

The Junior Varsity 8 of Jordan Heylock (coxswain), April Beck, Gabby Roque, Sydney Warpness, Kelly Cleveland, Kacey Talbot, Abby Sierigk, Ashley Hirt, and Jenna Holt Finished third in their only heat of the day to qualify for the A final with a time of 7:44.29.

Sunday’s finals are set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue on throughout the day.
