JU Women Compete in Final Day of SIRA

OAK RIDGE, Tn.—The JU women’s rowing team finished up the final day of the Southeastern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Regatta on Sunday with a trio of fifth place finishes.

The Junior Varsity 8 was the first event of the day for the women’s team.  In the A final, the lineup of Jordan Heylock (coxswain), April Beck, Gabby Roque, Sydney Warpness, Kelly Cleveland, Kacey Talbot, Abby Sierigk, Ashley Hirt, and Jenna Holt posted a time of 7:37.30 to finish in fifth place.

The Varsity 4 battled to a fifth place finish in the B final.  Renee Pharis (coxswain), Blanca Fernandez, Samara Generals, Ivy Hartley, and Rebecca Clark completed the course in a time of 8:28.60 edging out the sixth place finisher of Charleston by nearly four seconds.

In the tightly contested Varsity 8 B final, the Dolphins managed a fifth place finish.  Savannah Rice (coxswain), Cassie MacLellan, Jordyn Clary, Emily Close, Whitney Matthews, Jules Welch, Cat Plesko, Victoria, Hernandez, and Mary Mosier finished just 10 seconds behind the race winner with a time of 7:06.70. 

The Dolphins will now turn their attention to the MAAC Championships as they prepare to travel to Mercer Lake, N.J. to compete for the conference championship next weekend, April 27.
