Men’s golf tied for third at Atlantic Sun Conference Championship

BRASELTON, Ga. –The JU men’s golf team opened with a 13-over par total of 301 to sit in a tie for third place at the A-Sun Golf Championship at the Chateau Élan Resort in Braselton, Ga.

The Dolphins were led by senior Jamey Salmon (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore Nick Torrance (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) who both fired opening round 74’s to finish at 2-over par in a tie for seventh. Freshman Cyril Suk (Bradenton, Fla.) opened with a 76 and sophomore Brett McKinnon (Glace Bay, Nova Scotia) finished in a tie for 24th after recording an opening round 77. Christian Vickers a senior from Jacksonville rounded out the scoring for the Dolphins with an 85.

The tournament format is 54 holes over the par 72 lay out. The UNF Osprey’s finished day one at 1 over par 289 to hold a 9 shot lead over the Kennesaw State who opened with a 298. The Dolphins are tied with the ETSU Bucs twelve shots back.

Individually four players are tied for the lead at (-1), including UNF's Sean Dale and Kevin Phelan. KSU's Austin Vick and ETSU's Scott Gibson join the quartet in first. North Florida's Joey Petronio and ETSU's Rhys Pugh are just one stroke back at even par.
