JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--The JU track & field team has announced that it has signed Tia Smith out of Rockledge, Fla. to join the program for the upcoming season.
Smith currently competes for Rockledge High School where she excels in jumps. She has personal bests of 5’8” in the high jump and 38’7.5” in the triple jump. She recently won both of those events at her regional championship.
“We are excited to add Tia to our program,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “She is an excellent student, who has excelled in the jumps, and has combined event potential. She is well coached at Rockledge by Freddie Goins, and her father Kenny Smith who is the former FSU record holder in the high jump. She is an important addition to our power event group.”
Smith joins Jamaican native Tatiana Wolfe as the first two signings of the Dolphins 2014 class. With eight seniors winding down their record-setting careers, there will be many more signings to come.
