The JU softball team is set to host rival UNF for a three-game series that will be the final series of the regular season. Not only will it be the final home games of the three Dolphin seniors, but a potential berth in the Atlantic Sun Tournament is on the line.
The Dolphins (30-19, 11-12 A-Sun) enter the weekend on a nine-game slide that has seen them drop to seventh in the conference standings and on the outside looking in of conference tournament. Although they do not control their own destiny, capturing multiple wins this weekend would go a long way in getting the Dolphins into the tournament.
UNF (36-13, 14-6 A-Sun) currently sit in second place in the standings and are looking to capture their first A-Sun Tournament berth in school history. With a win this weekend, the Ospreys will do just that.
For Dale Tillman, Morgan Kibler, and Sarah Simon, it will be the last time the trio will take the field at the JU Softball Complex wearing the green and gold for JU. They have helped rewrite the record books for JU and will leave as the winningiest class in school history. Coming into the weekend they have been a part of 138 victories. Simon will finish her storied career as the best offensive player in school history. She ranks in the top of nearly every offensive statistic.
The three-game series is set to begin with a doubleheader on Saturday with game one starting at 1 p.m. Sunday’s series finale is also scheduled for 1 p.m.
