WEST WINDSOR, N.J.—The JU Women’s rowing team competed at the 2013 MAAC Rowing Championships at Lake Mercier on Saturday. They finished sixth overall.
The Dolphins finished fifth in the Varsity 8, sixth in the second Varsity 8, and seventh in the Varsity 4 to finish with a total of 20 team points. Marist took the MAAC title with 45 points.
The Varsity 8 of Savannah Rice (coxswain), Mary Mosier, Victoria Hernandez, Jules Welch, Whitney Matthews, Cassie MacLellan, Cat Plesko, Emily Close, and Jordyn Clary completed the course in a time of 7:17.84 to finish in fifth place. They edged out sixth place finisher Robert Morris by .01 of a second.
The second Varsity 8 of Jardan Heylock (coxswain), Jenna Holt, Ashley Hirt, Abby Sierigk, Kacey Talbot, Kelly Cleveland, Sydney Warpness, Gabby Roque, and April Beck finished in a time of 7:35.74. Their sixth place finish in the grand final gave them six team points.
The final event, the Varsity 4, saw the Dolphin boat of Renee Pharis (coxswain), Rebecca Clark, Ivy Hartley, Samara Generals, and Blanca Fernandez win the petite final in a time of 8:37.80. Their seventh overall finish gave them two total points.
The Dolphins will now turn their attention to the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 10.
