MACON, Ga.—Courtney Walker and Dolphin head coach Ron Grigg were named the Atlantic Sun’s Track Performer and Coach of the Year on Friday after helping the team win its 8th consecutive outdoor title last weekend.
Walker, just a sophomore out of Jacksonville, dominated for the Dolphins at the conference championships. She won the 400m in a conference record setting time of 53.60 as well as the 200m in 23.59. Walker also ran legs on the winning 4x400m relay team as well as the third place 4x100m relay team. She also added to the team’s point total with a seventh place finish in the long jump.
“Courtney had a greet meet, and was a key component to the team victory,” said Grigg. “I am proud that her accomplishments were recognized by the conference coaches.”
As for Grigg, he was unanimously voted the Coach of the Year for the eighth consecutive season after guiding the Dolphins to the conference title this season. JU won the meet in dominating fashion amassing 230.5 total team points, 49 more than the second place finishers of Kennesaw State.
Walker along with five of her teammates now turn their attention to the NCAA East Preliminaries. She and her teammates will compete at host NC A&T’s Irwin Belk Track next weekend in hopes of moving on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
