JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The JU Track & Field team has announced Mary Kate Ponder has signed on to compete for the Dolphins next season. She ran track and cross country for Mandarin High School and spent the last season at the University of Kentucky.
Ponder, a Jacksonville product, was a high school standout for Mandarin High where she posted a personal best 4:57.30 in the mile. This past season at Kentucky she posted a 2:13.70 800 meters.
“We are excited that Mary Kate has chosen to study closer to home,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “We recruited her as a high school senior, and she comes from a strong program at Mandarin High School. She has excellent family support that will only enhance her academic and athletic performances. She will add immediate significant quality to our middle distance group.”
