Owls soar past Dolphins

An early miscue and two late goals did the Dolphins in as FAU was able to beat JU 3-0 Friday night at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The growing pains continue for the Dolphins and new head coach Ryan Pratt as JU falls to 0-3-0 with the loss.  The Dolphins biggest struggle has come on offense where they have scored just one goal in three games so far this season.

The Dolphins found themselves in a hole early.  In the sixth minute, the Owls were able to intercept a pass in the Dolphin third of the field.  Deniz Bozkurt dribbled ahead and beat Dolphin goal keeper Gavin Carlin in a one on one situation giving FAU a lead that they would never relinquish.

JU seemed to recover from the mistake and had opportunities to score throughout the game.  The score remained 1-0 until the 82nd minute when Bozkurt struck again.  He corralled a ball in the box and fired a shot that deflected off a JU defender and passed the outstretched Carlin for the goal.

FAU finished off the win with a free kick goal with five minutes left in regulation.  Daniel Mendes struck from 20 yards out finding the upper left corner of the goal.

Overall the statistics were fairly even as FAU only enjoyed a one shot advantage, 9-8.

The game was very physical from the start as both teams ended up with double digit fouls.  In total there were six yellow cards, two for FAU and four for JU.

The Dolphins return to action this Sunday when they host FIU at 3:30 pm for the second game of a double header at the Ashley Sports Complex.
