Even with just one conference win so far on the season, the Jacksonville University men’s soccer team is very much in the thick of things when it comes to postseason play and the Atlantic Sun Tournament. The Dolphins currently sit just one spot back of qualifying for tournament heading into this weekend’s games.
JU will have its work cut out when it faces stiff tests in pair of games against Florida Gulf Coast and Mercer, but a couple of wins would go a long way in securing a spot in the A-Sun Tournament.
The Dolphins will host FGCU Thursday night at the Ashley Sports Complex in a special Coaches vs. Cancer game. The Eagles have gotten the better of the Dolphins the last two times they have played outscoring JU 6-1 in those contests including a 2-1 overtime victory last season in Fort Myers. FGCU currently sits in third in the conference standings with a 2-1-1 A-Sun record. They are led offensively by Felipe DeSousa and Will Morse who each have three goals and seven points on the season.
Jacksonville will then host the Mercer Bears on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Bears sit alone atop the A-Sun standings with a perfect 3-0-0 record. Will Betts leads the way for Mercer starting in all 13 contests and producing a team high four goals. The Dolphins won last season’s matchup in Macon, Ga. 2-1.
