Women’s hoops adds Stephanie Edwards for the 2012-13 season
The JU women’s basketball team picked up some help in the back court by adding junior college guard Stephanie Edwards (5-8, Miami, Fla.) for the 2012-13 season.
Edwards comes to Jacksonville after spending the last two seasons at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fla. She averaged nine points, five rebounds and two steals a game en route to earning Mid-Florida all-conference honors. Edwards was named freshman of the year during her first season after helping Santa Fe snag the conference title and earn a trip to the national tournament.
"Stephanie will be able to help us right away,” JU head coach Jill Dunn said. “She can do a lot of things well and will bring a tremendous work ethic and competitiveness to our team. Her experience and versatility will be great additions."
Prior to Santa Fe, Edwards won the state and district championships in her final two years at Miami-Norland High School. As a senior, she tallied 11 points and five rebounds a game. Edwards helped the Vikings to a 32-0 record in her junior season.
Edwards joins guard Queen Alford (5-8, Decatur, Ga.), forward Briona Brown (5-11, Haines City, Fla.) and forward Elizabeth Landers (6-1, Greenville, S.C.) in signing during the early period.
