Women’s cross country places fourth at FSU Invitational
Senior Joane Pierre broke the 6k program record in helping the JU women’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the FSU Invitational Friday evening.
Pierre, who had the second-best mark all-time, ran a 21:10.8 to place second overall in the meet. Her time passes Elsa Goshu who ran a 21:34 at the NCAA Regional in 2009.
“I am really pleased with this competition,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “I think we learned a lot about our fitness and it should only get better from here.”
Junior Svenja Meyer posted the third-fastest mark all-time in 21:51.8 (5th). Senior Morgan Keel was 23rd in 23:14.8 (13th all-time), while senior Amalia Vogler (24:17.2, 53rd) and sophomore Sarah Bailey (24:28.8, 60th) rounded out the group.
The Dolphins compete again Oct. 12 at the UCF Knight Attack Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
