Dolphins win third straight behind a big second half

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville women’s lacrosse team used a big second half to roll to a third straight win on Saturday with a 14-4 victory over Old Dominion at D.B. Milne Field.  

JU (4-2) was led by junior Morgan Derner (Lake Mary, Fla.) with three goals and an assist. Junior Brittney Orashen (Lebanon, N.J.) also added a hat trick with three goals to highlight seven goal scorers for the Dolphins who out scored the Monarchs 10-2 in the second half.

After Old Dominion jumped out to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game. A pair of goals from junior Nikki Erdely (Cumming, Ga) five minutes later put JU on top 2-1. Orashen (Lebanon, N.J.) followed with back-to-back goals of her own later in the half as the Dolphins took a 4-2 lead at the break.

The second half was all JU. Derner scored three goals in a span of 10 minutes to power five straight unanswered goal to open the half. Old Dominion (1-3) interrupted the run with two straight goals, but the Dolphins kept the pressure on and finished by scoring five straight goals to close out the game.

JU returns to action at home next Friday against William & Mary. Game time is set for 3:30 pm on D. B. Milne Field.
