JU falls in final minutes at USF
South Florida used a ratcheted up defense in the second half and scored in the 87th minute to upend the JU women’s soccer team, 1-0, in a preseason game here Friday.

After playing a scoreless first half, the Bulls turned up the pressure in the final half before finding the net, the third consecutive time the Bulls have scored the winning goal in the last five minutes against the Dolphins.

“It was back and forth in the first half and we had some good chances,’’ coach Brian Copham said. “They put more pressure on us in the second half and it was late in the half when we figured it out.’’

Copham, as the score might indicate, was pleased with the team’s defense.

“Defensively we played well,’’ he said. “As a team we defended very well.’’ Copham was happy for such a tough game early on.

“They’re a good team and they were a good first test for us,’’ he said.

The Dolphins play host to The Citadel in an exhibition Sunday at noon at the Ashley Sports Complex.
